Hot Stone Massage

Heated stone massage is an ancient technique used by Native Americans and Europeans as early as 1500 B.C. Intended to be extremely relaxing, a heated stone massage involves the placement of sanitized, warmed, smooth rocks (usually basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat) upon different parts of the body. Typically, the treatment is done in conjunction with traditional massage techniques, such as Swedish massage, and the stones may be used with applied pressure by the massage therapist during the treatment. Often, stones also are placed–and left for a period of time–on certain body parts such as the spine, hands or belly, and replaced once they cool. Cool stones may also be used to address muscle injury.

Myofascial Release instructed by Walt Fritz

From Myofascial Release Foundation
FoundationsinMFR.com

Foundations II is also a logical entry point into the Foundations Seminar model of learning. There are key points to any method of manual therapy that bear repeating, such as evaluation and learning a deeper “Feel” into this work and Foundations II stresses these points. Therapists who have taken Foundations I, or other trainings, will benefit from a deepening of this information while therapists new to Foundations Seminars or myofascial release/manual therapy will begin with a solid understanding of the underpinnings of these techniques.

Foundations II explores the entire body, from head to toe. Foundations I taught you how to develop the “Feel” necessary to identify myofascial restrictions and a beginning into connecting with pain. Foundations II takes you a step further; deepening the connecting with what you are feeling under your hand and your patient’s pain/dysfunction. Evaluation moves deeper as well, with special emphasis on understanding pelvic issues. Layers not felt or addressed in Foundations I will be uncovered. Advanced cervical, cranial, thoracic, lumbar, pelvic, and upper/lower extremity techniques will be included.

Techniques are the tool to deepen your feel, and all Foundations in Myofascial Release Seminars heavily emphasize techniques. You will leave this seminar moving toward mastery.

Prerequisite: NONE. While flowing smoothly from Foundations I, Foundations II can be taken as an introductory seminar.

Cupping Massage

A wonderful ancient technique has found its place in the modern world of healing. Cupping bodywork is based on the common practice of Chinese cupping therapy, and the incredible results that this simple treatment produces have truly impressed those who experience its subtle power.

By creating suction and negative pressure, Cupping therapy is used to soften tight muscles and tone attachments, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues, and drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways. Cupping bodywork is versatile and can easily be modified to accomplish a range of techniques, from lymphatic drainage to deep tissue release. This complements many health modalities ranging from spa treatments to medical massage and physical therapy.

Fascial Bodywork

A focused training of the fascial network could be of great importance for therapists who have clients who are athletes, dancers, golfers and other movement advocates. Many problems that affect muscles are not resolved by working on the muscles alone. The protective connective tissue sheaths around muscles, called fascia, often become stuck and glued to adjacent sheaths and inhibit movement of the muscles, structures, and organs within. The release of adhesions in fascia requires experience, knowledge of its layers, and properly guided touch. If ones fascial body is well conditioned, that is to say optimally elastic and resilient, then it can be relied on to perform effectively and, at the same time, offer a high degree of injury prevention. A unique characteristic of connective tissue is its impressive adaptability: when regularly put under increasing physiological strain, it changes its architectural properties to meet the demand.

Fascial Bodywork is more than deep tissue massage. It is an effective approach to deal with the ill-results of accidents, injuries, surgeries, neck, back and joint pain, poor posture, chronic tension, and the ill effects of emotions. By using a combination of manual techniques the body becomes aligned and balanced. Connective tissue tension is eased, muscles lengthen, the nervous system is released and joints move with freedom and balance, and the body regains its innate vertical alignment.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage 1

Lymphatic massage, also referred to as lymphatic drainage or manual lymph drainage, is a technique developed in Germany, the main purpose of which is to stimulate the lymph system. Lymphatic massage consists of specific movements that are used to lightly push lymph through the system, helping it to drain out of the tissues and move throughout the body. This treatment is commonly used to help with lymphedema, which can be caused by heart problems, wearing tight-fitting clothing, and injuries like sprains and fractures. It also sometimes happens as a side effect of chemotherapy treatments and surgeries done to remove cancerous tissues. Lymphatic Massage 1 teaches the techniques required to do manual drainage. Lymphatic Drainage Massage 2 teaches Bandaging (Wrapping) techniques for the serious practitioner.
