Craniosacral-fascial Therapy

Learn the Gillespie Approach to CFT – A gentle, yet powerful modality that changes the theories of traditional fascial and craniosacral methods. Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) is based on the theory that the craniosacral and fascial systems are one.

During this hands on learning three day seminar, you will explore the craniosacral fascial
system. CFT techniques are designed to facilitate and follow the release of strain, allowing optimal mobility and therefore better brain function. You will learn gentle, yet powerful techniques with a great deal of treatment being exchanged during the seminar. Most participants find it personally and professionally transforming.
CFT can easily be used to enhance or compliment other therapy.

Introductory Ayurved – Marma Therapy Massage

Learn one of Ayurved’s most powerful ancient tools for relaxation and rejuvenation!

The vital and energy points of the body are known as marma. Ayurveda says, there are 107 marma points in the whole human body. In Ayurveda, it is a point in the human body that’s located at the intersections of veins, muscles, joints, bones, ligaments or tendons. These points are considered to be vital points because they are infused with prana (life force energy) and are influenced by consciousness. Marma points are also stimulated by touch / massage.

This introductory class is part of a 20 hour certification workshop which provides a full spectrum of knowledge about Marma Points Massage based on Ayurvedic concepts that diverges deeper into the marma point. Learn self-care rituals for daily rejuvenation as well as simple ayurveda protocols for various body areas. For massage therapy practitioners and healers from any background who want to facilitate deeper relaxation for their clients this training is ideal.

The classes include theory, demonstrations, hands-on supervised practice, experiential meditation and yoga, self-care protocols, and Q&A times of the human body. During the course, we would disseminate information to the students about the specific and powerful points of marma that can be triggered to provide maximum benefits to their clients.

Move Your Mood

As a manual therapist you interface with the human form five to seven days a week. People walk into your therapy room exhibiting all kinds of shapes. Some shapes are healthy and helpful. Some are unhealthy and painful. Have you ever wondered how we become the shapes we make?  Where are these shapes held; in the fascia or in the brain?

In this six hour “Move Your Mood” class we will explore answers to those questions. We will explain how we get stuck and how manual therapy unsticks stuck fascia.

We plan to challenge some ideas about “exercise” and teach you to stay in your scope of practice as you recommend healthy movement to your clients.

Get ready to learn words like “interoception” and “ideokinesis.”

And get ready to get friendly with a foam roller!

Neuromuscular Therapy

“Neuromuscular therapy treats the CAUSE of the pain, not just the SYMPTOMs.”

Come to the Institute of Bodywork Studies to learn an exciting series of techniques that you can use with your clients after the very first class!  These techniques access the postural distortion patterns that cause your clients’ chronic pain.  Surprise!  They are probably NOT in the area of pain.

Neuromuscular Therapy combines structural postural analysis, myofascial release and trigger point therapy to the direct areas of causation.  Developed in the 1930s, therapists are more commonly found on the east and west coast than here, so it’s great to offer these classes in Texas!  These weekend classes can be used toward a 100 hour certification series in the future.

This class is extremely hands on and will teach you the skills to treat your clients deeply but quickly and efficiently for longer lasting results.  They will keep coming back for more!

Hot Stone Massage

If you operate your own practice and want to increase your income, or want to add this to your skill set to use at work, or need the CEUs as a requirement for recertification, then consider learning this useful modality.  Hot stone massage is an ancient technique used by Native Americans and Europeans as early as 1500 B.C.  Intended to be extremely relaxing, a hot stone massage involves the placement of sanitized, warmed, smooth rocks (usually basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat) on different parts of the body in conjunction with traditional massage techniques like Swedish massage.  Heated stones can also be used with applied pressure by the massage therapist during treatment for firm pressure and deep tissue work.  Cool stones may also be used to address muscle injury.

Cupping Massage

A wonderful ancient technique has found its place in the modern world of healing. Cupping bodywork is based on the common practice of Chinese cupping therapy, and the incredible results that this simple treatment produces have truly impressed those who experience its subtle power.

By creating suction and negative pressure, Cupping therapy is used to soften tight muscles and tone attachments, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues, and drain excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways. Cupping bodywork is versatile and can easily be modified to accomplish a range of techniques, from lymphatic drainage to deep tissue release. This complements many health modalities ranging from spa treatments to medical massage and physical therapy.
